WINGS OVER WINE COUNTRY
Spring Section Meeting
April 22-24, 2005

If we jump into the darkness of the unknown, faith lets us believe that
we will either land on solid ground, or we will be taught how to fly.

Picture yourself in the left seat overflying the Grand Valley with its unlimited visibility and 347 VFR days/year.  Upon landing, you will be treated to local wine tasting, a tour of Colorado National Monument, and speakers by a well-known aviatrix or two.  Throw in some unique activities for the 49 1/2s, an opportunity to claim your  "Highest Airport" certificate in Leadville, and you've got one fun-filled Spring Section hosted by the High Country 99s.

So what's new this time?  We've selected beautiful downtown Grand Junction as the venue for hotel accommodations and Section business.  You'll love our tree-lined streets, restaurant options and open-air sculpture museum along Main Street.

Highlights:

  • Tour of Colorado National Monument
  • Wine Tasting at Two Rivers Winery
  • Hangar BBQ and entertainment
  • Reception with local CAF
  • Seminars by Julie Boatman, Madeleine Monaco, and a Pro 99s Network representative
  • Banquet speaker:  Astronaut Sandra Magnus, PhD, NASA

49 1/2 Optional Activities:

  • Petroglyphs & Pale Ale--a guided hike to see some seldom-visited petroglyphs followed by beer tasting at brand-new Palisade Brewery and lunch at Palisade Cafe
  • Golf & Grille--tee off at Colorado's #1 golf course, Redlands Mesa, followed by lunch at their Red Canyon Grille.

Still More Possibilities:
  • Mountain Flying Clinic (fly with an experienced mountain instructor to Leadville, the nation's highest public use airport at 9927' MSL)
  • Limousine wine tour in Palisade
  • Renowned "Cabaret" dinner theater
  • Biking red rock paths or Colorado river trails
